How to protect yourself and your money from fraud?

There are often heard stories when people encountered various situations, in which they were scammed out of their money. The bank has introduced the best and up-to-date security solutions that protect its customers; however, anyone can make a mistake and subject their funds to fraud risks.

The latest trend is scam calls, when scammers try to get customers’ Internet Banking access data and Digipass codes to make payments. Scammers have possibilities of counterfeiting phone numbers to make calls look as if they were made from the bank’s phone numbers. Scammers have exuberant imagination – from saying that a suspicious transaction was performed and the bank needs Digipass data to cancel it to saying that the customer has won in a lottery and access is required to receive these funds in their account.

Therefore, it is crucial to remember that the bank will never call its customers to find out their payment card data, Internet Banking user numbers or Digipass codes. If you receive such a call, the best would be to end the conversation and call the bank’s phone number to find out whether the occurred conversation was actually a call made by the bank or fraud.

Scammers tend to counterfeit websites of various institutions, making them look identical to their legitimate websites. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you enter your identification and authentication data in the Internet Banking system on the bank’s website at ib.ribbank.com.

Security of Purchases with a Card

When making purchases with a card on the Internet, an additional password will have to be entered. The password will consist of two parts: CVC2 code on the back of the card + six-digit code generated by the bank and sent to the card user to his/her mobile phone. Note that the bank will send the six-digit code only one time to the phone number, to which you have already received the password for shopping online. The password should be memorised for the next online purchases.

If necessary, the card user can change the password by sending an SMS to +371 20 002 004 with the following text: “IDC previous password new password” (e.g.: IDC 312123456 e58H35o)

The new password can consist of 6 to 9 characters and include small and capital letters as well as digits. Other symbols cannot be used. If several payment cards are linked to your mobile phone and you wish to set a different password for each card, indicate the last 4 digits of the card number after the new password and a space in your SMS.
